While visiting a cemetery, you may have come across a random coin placed on top of a grave marker. Whether it’s a penny, a nickel, a dime or a quarter, they all have a special meaning – all are a sign of respect for a fallen soldier.
Leaving a penny means you visited the soldier.
A nickel means that you went to boot camp with that soldier.
A dime indicates that you served with the soldier.
Leaving a quarter is particularly significant because it means that you were with the soldier when he or she died.
What a beautiful, simple act to honor those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms.
Please share so that more know about this tradition and can also pay their respects.
