As the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards got underway, to no one’s surprise, just about everyone that set foot onstage took aim at President Donald Trump to use the opportunity to bash him in front of millions of people. Stephen Colbert opened up with a five-minute monologue bashing the president, and then, others joined in during their acceptance speeches.
But one group’s remarks stood out among the rest. Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Jane Fonda took the stage, and they wasted no time ruthlessly unloading on Trump.
“Back in 1980 in that movie, we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.”
Tomlin then jumped in:
“In 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.”
